Some people like to improve their Krav Maga skills outside of the studio.  Often we have to do this alone as it can be difficult to persuade friends or family to practice with us.

There are, however, many things you can do to improve.  Here are 4 basic exercises.

Practice striking combinations.

Try basic combinations such as two straight punches and build from there – adding hooks, knees, kicks, etc.  If you have access to a mirror you can check that you are keeping your hands up, rotating properly etc.. Focus on good technique then gradually go faster while maintaining good form.

Dry Drills.

Practice techniques (or parts of techniques) without a partner.  This will help your muscle memory. As you progress, vary your technique to adapt to various situations.  Ask your instructor for options.

Stress Training.

Try the above options when you are tired.  I like to skip rope for a minute then practice combos or dry drills for a minute. I repeat this 5 or 6 times and strive to maintain decent form and technique. Not easy!

Fitness.

Interval training, cardio, stretching. Your workouts don’t have to be long. 20-40 minutes of focused exercise(leave the cell phone in your locker?) is effective.

Don’t hesitate to ask your instructor for training tips.  If you blend the above exercises into your workouts you will see significant improvements.

Enjoy your training!
