Any time our performance is being evaluated-exams, dance or music recitals, driver’s test etc…- stress is along for the ride.

To me, this is a good thing. Performing self-defense techniques under the stress of a testing environment is another way to measure your abilities. It is not as brutal or as unpredictable as a real assault but any opportunity to perform under stress is an opportunity to improve and get a better sense of your progress.

This brings us to another point. Students who performed the best fulfilled three basic criteria.

  1. They performed the techniques many times (high repetition) consistently for many months. 6 or more.
  2. They performed these techniques during group class stress drills. Again, consistently, for many months.
  3. They understand Krav Maga based on principles rather than memorization.

Stress, in general, can be harmful but it can also be channeled for self-improvement through practice and preparation.
